In late 2013, Manly Council called out for an event organiser to take over a dark and unused lane way space on a Saturday night for 12 weeks, and create something fun and exciting that would offer locals & tourists the opportunity to socialise and engage in unique and interesting activities, in a non-licensed premise.

The Whole Creative produced the idea of 'Market Lane Saturday's', which would be a series of mini-festival style pop-up events that took on a new theme each week, celebrating the various sub-cultures of Manly and promoting local talents, entertainers, creatives and businesses.  Kicking off with a huge Motorcycle Show & Shine complete with rockabilly bands and classic biker movies, the series went through Retro Surf nights, Skateboarding competitions, a local bands night, Movember fundraising activities, and more.  The series wrapped with one huge Christmas Markets evening where carollers sang, fake snow blew across the lanes, people shopped up a storm, and local band Winston Surfshirt had the entire crowd dancing for over 2 hours.

Each evening event consisted of 4 food stalls from local suppliers, and 20 market stalls from local creatives, all on rotation each week to keep the offerings mixed, and as many locals involved as possible.

Feedback from Council, local residents, local business, visitors, media and young & old alike was overwhelming positive.  Market Lane Saturday's proved to be a great place to hang out with family and friends, and brought together the diverse Manly community to showcase and enjoy the various amazing parts of their community and their area.
